Don’t kick the garbage off your lawn or a tiger may show up
So… I was out for a walk this morning with my Percy dog. Had a good pace but noticed myself slow as I watched a man kicking some paper debris off his lawn. It was breezy and garbage day had been the day before, and you know, things get blown around.
I watched him kick it and kick it, all the way to the gutter, and then leave it there. Huh? Why wouldn’t he just bend over, grab it and put it in the garbage can? (Which I could see in his garage equally distant from the gutter to where he started).
I know people do their things for their own reasons, but It didn’t make any sense to me. Why would you make all that effort just leave it for someone else to clean up?
About 30 minutes later on my way back, I walked past his house and saw that same piece of paper garbage had blown back up on his lawn again. Amused, I thought, hmmm, where do I do this in my life?
Where do I kick something to the gutter that might take the same amount of energy to pick up and put in the garbage? I let myself sit with that question for the morning.
My answers? My first thought was things that I procrastinate on. “Things” I’m ambivalent about, that will take energy to deal with no matter which way I do it.
But is that true? No! It’s the allure, but a sneaky little lie. If I procrastinate, they can take more energy. The mental clutter space that the “thing” takes up leaves a perma-low level draw on my mental, and therefore, physical energy. That is a source of low level stress that can make the adrenals tired over time. = lower available estrogen later in menopause.
